One is the established side of town, the larger homes over near Regency Park and Penny Road, where the piano has usually been in the family a long time and nobody wants to see it go neglected. The other is the active-adult side out west, communities like Heritage Pines off the Carpenter area, where folks have downsized and brought along a piano they have owned for thirty or forty years.
A piano that just got moved is going to need tuning, plain and simple. The move jostles everything, and one that sat through a sale or a downsizing has usually gone a good while without any attention. That is a big share of what we see in Cary, and it is no trouble at all. Most of the time a single visit gets it back to pitch. If it has been many years, we will tell you honestly whether it needs a pitch raise first.
The other thing working on a piano here is the humidity. Cary summers are sticky and the winters turn dry once the heat is running, and the wood inside the piano moves right along with the seasons. That is the real reason the tuning wanders, and it is why we tell most people to plan on twice a year. If your piano lives near a big bank of windows or sits over a floor vent, you may hear it go before that.
